In many scriptures in the Tanakh you find verses that reference Jesus. He is often mentioned as the ‘Angel of the Lord’. The prophetic nature of his coming and the fulfillment of Biblical promises are highlighted. Various passages point to aspects of his life, ministry, and significance, reinforcing the belief that he is the embodiment of the Messianic prophecies depicted in the scriptures. Understanding these verses provides deeper insight into the foundational belief of Jesus-the Messiah and the interconnectedness of the Old and New Testaments.

Prophecies fulfilled

One of the most significant aspects of the relationship between the Tanakh and Jesus is the prophecy surrounding the Messiah. For example, Isaiah 7:14 mentions a virgin who will conceive and give birth to a son named Immanuel, which translates to "God with us." This prophecy is directly quoted in Matthew 1:22-23 regarding the birth of Jesus.

In Micah 5:2, it is foretold that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem. This detail aligns with the nativity account in the New Testament, where Jesus is indeed born in Bethlehem, fulfilling this prophecy.

The Suffering Servant

The concept of the suffering servant found in Isaiah 53 is another important area where Jesus's fulfillment can be observed. The chapter describes a figure who suffers for the transgressions of others, a description that many associate with the crucifixion of Jesus. The sacrificial death of Jesus is seen as the ultimate fulfillment of this prophetic imagery, emphasizing themes of redemption and atonement.

The Law

The Tanakh (Old Testament) sets the stage for understanding Jesus's role concerning the Law and the covenants made with humanity. Jesus himself states in Matthew 5:17 that he came not to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. Through his teachings, actions, and sacrificial death, Jesus addresses and transforms the understanding of the Law, highlighting a deeper, more profound relationship with God.

Reconciliation

Throughout the Old Testament, the theme of reconciliation between God and humanity is seen  in various narratives and laws. Jesus embodies this theme by offering a new covenant established through his blood, as mentioned in Luke 22:20. This covenant invites all of humanity into a restored relationship with God, which is the central message Jesus conveyed.
